Full description:

We will begin our guided tour of Castel Sant’Angelo from your accommodation (pick-up includes - meet the guide in front the Castle). Once here, we will discover the different sculptures located above the Tiber river, thus capturing one of Rome’s most famous sight live. After knowing the history and the statues of the bridge, we will discover the internal environments of Castel Sant’Angelo. We will retrace the fundamental stages of the history of the building, initially conceived as a mausoleum for the imperial family of Hadrian.

Did you know that the legend tells that in the VI century AD, during an epidemic of plague, the archangel Michal appeared in this place? The castels is an inexhaustible source of stories and legends, many of which are linked to the Popes. In fact, we will visit the rooms on the upper floor dedicated to the popes and decorated with wonderful renaissance frescoes.

Some works even belong to the Rapahel school and are the result of a truly impressive technical skill. from the upper floor we will then access the terrace, from which we will be able to enjoy a complete view of rome and the Vatican City. After dedicating ourselves to exploring the upper part of the castle, we will visit the rooms on the lower floor. Once here, we will have the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the terrible stories related to the Vatican’s secret tunnel, an underground corridor that directly connects the Castle with the Holy See. During the sack of Rome in 1527 perpetrated by the troops of Emperor Charles V, Pope Clement VII resorte to this “village pass” to escape. During the visit we will also refer to several literary works set in this hidden place, including Dan Brown’s novel “Angels and demons”, made famous by the homonymous film. We will end the tour in front of the castle entrance.
